Latin Program | School Year 2017/18

My French Classes offers Latin classes for Middle and High School students (Grades 6 to 11). Latin classes now take place on Saturdays after afternoon French classes.

This class is taught in French by a highly experienced French and Latin teacher.

—— Learn Latin ——

The study Latin begins with the study of the basic declensions, conjugations and vocabulary.

Students use from the a une complete grammar book (Latin grammar Accurate, Magnard edition) and a classic Latin dictionary (Pocket Gaffiot, Hachette publishing).

Closely related to the study of the French language , students deepen their understanding of the difference between the nature and function of words, revise sentence construction rules and discover new spelling rules through the study of etymology.

The proposed texts are taken from great writers and provided with translation, for a direct contact with Latin literature, in parallel with the study of appropriate sentences and texts.

Quotes and sayings are to be memorized by students for short written recitations.
Emphasis is made on Roman history and classic literary history :

Each student constructs a timeline on which events, authors and great men are placed.

The gods and the founding Greek and Roman myths as well as the related elements of geography and civilization are also studied to complete the study of texts devoted mainly to the founding of Rome, the monarchy and the beginnings of the Republic .

Current students benefit from a special rate for this program:
$720 per year (reflecting a %25 discount on the regular tuition of $960 per trimester)

Spots are limited and will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

Classes take place from 4:15pm to 5:45pm (1.5 hours) on Saturdays at our Saturday campus in Bethesda.
